BioChem takes over GMP division* of nadicom – centre of excellence for the identification of microorganisms completed
On March 1, 2018 BioChem Labor für biologische und chemische Analytik GmbH acquired the GMP division* of nadicom Gesellschaft für angewandte Mikrobiologie mbH, both based in Karlsruhe and completed its centre of excellence for the identification of microorganisms. At the heart of this strategic acquisition of BioChem is the “tree by nadicom” database.
It is used to genetically identify microorganisms using the world’s largest GMP-compliant database, which contains 16S/18S/ITS rDNA sequences of more than 50,000 species. This is continuously updated by our experts to include the latest pharmaceutically relevant sequences.
Furthermore, the genetic typing of microorganisms by means of DNA fingerprinting is possible. BioChem will also continue to work with the validated methods acquired from nadicom for the identification of microorganisms.
Customers who have so far made use of nadicom’s services come in particular from the pharmaceutical industry and thus fit in perfectly with BioChem’s existing customer base. BioChem will offer them comprehensive consultation, in particular on environmental monitoring and microbial contamination, e.g. in production, in close cooperation with the microbiology department.
Based on its excellent microbiological and molecular biological expertise, BioChem’s customers receive the whole range of identification of bacteria, yeasts and moulds very precise, fast and reliable from a single source using state-of-the-art methods:
- microscopic/morphological analysis
- mass spectrometry analysis by MALDI-TOF and
- molecular biological identification by means of “tree by nadicom” database

As part of the acquisition BioChem offered employees of nadicom’s GMP division* permanent employment, so that customer support will continue without interruption. With its high expertise, many years of experience and special know-how, the team will establish optimally at BioChem. The expansion of BioChem’s headquarters in Daimlerstrasse is currently in the planning phase, so that the team can move there within a few months.
